Model Decal/sticker Application tips?

I got a PG Strike Gundam and i’m very close to done (FINALLY) anyways, the “ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY FREAKING DOLLAR KIT” comes with a bunch crappy sticker decals. For the white bits of armor i really don’t mind, but when applied to blue or red armor, the sticker always has a whitish background. so, I scanned, photo-shopped and custom printed the decals. Now, do i have to gloss the surface or anything? i normally know how to apply waterslides, however I want this model to be THE BEST IVE EVER MADE. So are there any special tips to applying stickers or waterslides? thanks!

yes, after applying decals, use a clear varnish for best results
